Here and There and Everywhere, 2018
As Bachelard’s Poetics of Space implies, the Sunshine State’s volatile backgrounds or every corner that I explore partly remind me of “home”, Japan. I have a charged history with the places where stark differences provide meaningful connections that negotiate my direct experiences with these settings. Paintings intend to magnify a morphing relationship. The emotional palette and architectural layout contribute to shakkei or “borrowed scenery” in my search for a balance and unity in design through color and placement.
